Added block account

Post by BigKay » 05 Dec 2014, 18:47

I added a second server to use as a block account to fill in missing parts. UseNetServer is my primary (Level 0) and I have BlockNews as my second server (Level 1). It doesn't seem to be getting used. I tried downloading a movie and get;

Cancelling download and deleting Draft.Day.2014.BDRip.X264-AMIABLE due to health 89.5% below critical 89.6%
20 of 20 article downloads failed for "Draft.Day.2014.BDRip.X264-AMIABLE\143458.r01"
20 of 20 article downloads failed for "Draft.Day.2014.BDRip.X264-AMIABLE\143458.r02"
1 of 1 article downloads failed for "Draft.Day.2014.BDRip.X264-AMIABLE\143458.par2"

I assumed the block account would pick this missing stuff up. MAybe I'm not understanding what a block account really does.

The credentials I entered seem OK;

Active = Yes
Name = BlockNews
Level = 1
Host = usnews.blocknews.net
Port = 443
Username = what they sent me
Password = What they sent me
Encryption = Yes
Connections = 10

So you think the server was not used just because the download failed? Block accounts don't mean "non-failurable".

In the history (or in download queue) click on an item, then on "Completion" in the statistics box and you'll see what servers were used and with what results.

In this particular case both UseNetServer and BlockNews are resellers of Highwinds and use the same servers.

Noooo ... darn ! I thought they were using different backends ... damn ! Any recommendations on what to use with UsenetServer ?

Looked in History and clicked on movie. The stats don't show any servers used, just;

Total ... xxx MB's
Files (total/remaining) ... 62 / 0
Articles (total/completion) ... 1175 / 0%

"Articles (total/completion)" should be a link if you use version 13 or newer.

Google for "usenet provider map".

Ahhh, I see it now ... cool !

It had a 0% success rate for both servers.

I'll google that ... thanks ...

sorry to dig up an old thread, but curious if someone knows what it means when those stats show something like:
Server Articles Art. % Success Failures
1. UsenetServer 40 100% 0% 100%
2. Cheapnews.eu - BLOCK -- -- -- --

I would interpret that as it didn't check my block account, right? or is that just saying it wasn't found at all there? I can't find any stats for any of the 20 or so articles I checked (even ones that were completed)

The second server wasn't tried at all.
Was it enabled? Does it have (smaller) Retention set?

As far as I can tell, yes (screenshot of settings attached)...

The only thing I'm thinking is that maybe the retention check kicked in... i had it set to 1300 days (based on cheapnews site), but was searching for something that was somewhat recent...

could the port be the issue (the test connection is successful though???)

so for what it's worth (or if anyone else has this issue)... when I changed the retention to "0" (effectively removing that check) it seems to be working now... appreciate the help!
