[os x] "could not establish connection to downloader (backgr

Post by getgotgottenwillget » 24 Jul 2015, 16:52

first post, searched first.

title pretty much says it all.

os x 10.10.2—i've not changed anything myself, but i noticed that two days ago, things broke (sonarr would "grab" but nothing would happen). upon investigation, well, it's nzbget.

i've tried:
• restarting
• restarting in safe mode
• reinstalling

all to no avail.

help me, old ben kenobi, you're my only hope.

May be queue is damaged.
Try "reset to factory defaults" but backup queue directory and config file first.

Please also check the log-file before resetting.

ok,

i've backed up
• queue
• config

i *think* i've found the log in ~/Library/Logs/NZBGet.log (1.79gb).

what am i looking for in it? i see a lock-file error most immediately.
3 days ago one of my carts won't download.
crc error 3 days ago.
tls handshake fail also 3 days ago.

Delete the log and try starting again. Then look into log.
A locked lock-file may indeed prevent the process from starting. Try deleting the lock-file manually. Check if there are other processes with name "nzbget" running. Normally there should be one process "NZBGet" (menubar app) and "nzbget" (background downloader process).

If doesn't help - try command "reset to factory defaults".

thanks for the fast replies, hugbug.

no other processes. one capital. one lowercase. capital shows 0% use. lowercase comes+goes (mostly not there) never showing any cpu use.

when quit, both go away.

(menu bar item shows "starting" then constant "restarting")
lock file gets recreated on each launch.

new log file only contains
info - nzbget 15.0 daemon-mode.

is there any lesser way to troubleshoot this than blowing all my settings away (what i assume "reset" does)? can i manually clear the queue first?

(lockfile contains "1255" if that's any help.)

You can always restore settings via "web-interface -> Settings -> SYSTEM -> Restore settings" and choosing your old config (which you backup first).

Of course, you can remove only queue. From menubar icon choose "Show in Finder -> Config file". Stop NZBGet and delete/rename folder "queue".

Also try renaming "/Users/Prygunkov/Library/Application Support/NZBGet" (stop nzbget first). Then start nzbget. This is the same as "reset to factory defaults" but you can revert back any time.

You loose queue with history and statistics. They are saved in different files. You can try to recover statistics. Copy file stats from backup to queue directory (with nzbget stopped).
Queue corruption can be caused by program bugs or if a total system crash happened and file buffers were not flushed to disk. For the latter v16 has new feature "force flush when saving queue".

To answer "why" I could try to debug with your queue. Send it to me at nzbget@gmail.com if you OK with sharing your history.
