Crashing after "too many open files" error

Post by Max.Henri » 21 Oct 2015, 15:04

Hello,

Got NZBGet 16.1 armel on my Asus RT-AC68U router.
Problem is, that it randomly crashes while I'm downloading. The error I'm getting is

Wed Oct 21 15:47:41 2015 DETAIL Download Ubuntu.r02 [1/20] failed
Wed Oct 21 15:47:41 2015 ERROR Could not open file /tmp/mnt/sda1/entware.arm/nzbget/downloads/intermediate/Ubuntu.#142/3607.out.tmp: Too many open files

That is the last entry in the log, before NZBGet crashes.

Any ideas as to what I can do about it?

Thanks for showing me in the right direction.

For reference, the command in terminal was "ulimit -n 2048" to increase open files limit to 2048. Mine was set to 1024 :)

I have used nzbget for few years now. Since version 16.0 and 16.1 my queue gets corrupted and crashes the daemon instance. Clearing the queue directory fixes the problem. Is this same problem? I was running mhddfs and now I am running mergerfs. It was rock solid prior to version 16.0

The first thing to check is the log. Look for errors when creating or writing files.

Please use the debug build, activate option "DumpCore". When it crashes post the last 20 lines of the log. Save the core-file for further inspection if needed.

Okay I found out, that entering that command in shell, only work until i close the terminal. For kicks, I reverted back to the entware package version of nzbget, which unfortunately is still only 15.0. But I don't get any open files limit errors with that version, it ran all night, and my previous problem with only unpacking the last item in queue is also gone  . Weird but it seems to work now, although I did prefer being on 16.1.

It shouldn't be that hard to add the command to the script which you use to launch NZBGet.

I checked the log, it is that dreadful too many open files error. I will look for solutions on the forum.
I also have the core file but it is all gibberish to me.

That's second report about "too many open files". I wonder if there is resource leak bug somewhere.
Although the first report was about Asus RT-AC68U router, where the limit for open files were indeed set low.

How high is the limit on your system? See http://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/linux-incr ... pen-files/

P.S. I'm going to move the posts to another thread to keep the issues separate.
