RSS-Feeds not working on Synology DS214+

Post by nzbgetlover » 10 Nov 2015, 14:42

After many years with nzbget on WIndows I tried to install nzbget on a Synology DS214+ machine. I did use the "Universal installer for Linux" and the "Automatic installation" process from your website. Installation did work like a charm.

My problem: RSS-Feeds, that I use on Windows on an hourly base, don't work here. This is something I couldn't get to work with the community packages for Synology as well. I thought that your own package would work here. But it didn't. Here's an example of one of the RSS-Feeds:

http://rss.binsearch.net/rss.php?max=19 ... ook.german

Here's what I get:

Due to excessive data traffic usage, using RSS clients that do not support (gzip) compression is no longer allowed!

How can I force nzbget to use gzip requests with the Linux installation?

Thanks in advance.

It supports gzip.

I've just tested the feed and it worked for me.

Where do you get this error message? Is it printed to the nzbget log? Please show more lines from the log.

Thanks for your answer.

I tried so many times to get nzbget working with that particular RSS-feed on my Synology NAS. The community package refuses to work. Same is true for the latest 16.3 package from your website. I even used the config from my Windows machine - only changed paths and unpack page.

If I use my Windows install with the same config, the RSS-feed works all the time. If I use a Linux package, they don't work. I can switch between both - Windows works always, Linux never.

The error text in my first post is from wget when I use that RSS-Feed link. I thought the GZIP hint might be the reason, why it doesn't work.

The real nzbget log is shown at the bottom of this post. IMHO, the output is misleading. Windows works at the same time.

I would really, really like to use nzbget on my Synology. To be honest I bought this NAS just for nzbget.

The log:

Try the debug version, activate DebugTarget and post the output (better via pastebin.com).

Again, thanks for your answer.

I did a test with the DEBUG version and captured the log (please see attachment). The error reported is:

Could not receive data on socket: ErrNo 11, Resource temporarily unavailable

This error can't be the real error. I can stop the Linux version, start the Windows version and everything works. I can switch back and force every minute. The Windows version of nzbget works always. The Linux version never. The conf file is the same - except the paths and the unpack page.

I'm a happy nzbget for Windows user since many years. I could never get the Linux version on my Synology NAS to work.

Thanks for your investigation.

It can be, since you do the tests on different computers.
Message "Resource temporarily unavailable" means the connection to the host could not be established. If the problem were with "gzip" nzbget would become a response with an error message (instead of rss content) and would report an error like "could not parse feed".

When you tested with "wget" did you do this on the device?
Do you have "curl" on the device? Try it too.

With "wget" try activating gzip, something like this:

Code: Select all

wget -S --header="accept-encoding: gzip" http://rss.binsearch.net/rss.php?max=199&g=alt.binaries.e-book.german
Can it download the feed?

Thanks again.

Yes, I did all tests on that Synology NAS. I had to change the wget command and added quotes around the url. With that command I do receive 17KB of binary data. gzip can unzip it and the content is ok.

Code: Select all

wget -S --header="accept-encoding: gzip" "http://rss.binsearch.net/rss.php?max=199&g=alt.binaries.e-book.german"

Using curl worked as well on that machine:

Code: Select all

curl --compressed "http://rss.binsearch.net/rss.php?max=199&g=alt.binaries.e-book.german"

Next step was to restart nzbget on that same machine again. I navigate to my "/volume1/homes/testuser/nzbget" folder with the debug version. I issue "./nzbget -D". On my windows machine I start the Web-GUI, click on one of the RSS feeds (download page). As always I do see the pause image circling forever. The feeds don't work. After a long time I do get:
Could not read feed. Request: {"nocache":1447415408204,"method":"viewfeed","params":[1,false]}
Argh. I do not have any idea.

Every year or so I try again. I used the commuity package, I used your different versions. I don't get it. Give up again.

Sorry for wasting your time.
