UNRAR and permission denied errors *SOLVED

Post by habskilla » 01 Feb 2016, 15:27

Running into an issue on larger downloads (+10GB) where the unpack will fail with a permission denied error. But, if I post-process the failed download, it will complete successfully.

From the log:
Sun Jan 31 06:15:27 2016 INFO Unrar: All OK
Sun Jan 31 06:15:27 2016 DETAIL Successfully downloaded xxxxxx.rar [157/157]
Sun Jan 31 06:15:27 2016 DETAIL Downloading xxx.part59.rar [24/45] @ news.frugalusenet.com (news.frugalusenet.com)
Sun Jan 31 06:15:27 2016 DETAIL Joining articles for xxx.rar
Sun Jan 31 06:15:27 2016 ERROR Could not move file Z:\XXX\\xxxx\_unpack\xxx.mkv to Z:\XXX\xxx.mkv: Permission denied
Sun Jan 31 06:15:27 2016 ERROR Unpack for xxx failed

When I post-process the failed download, it has no issue moving the final file to Z:\XXX\xxx.mkv

On smaller downloads to the same directory structure, there are no unpack/move issues.

That usually means some other program blocks the file. Antivirus, Indexing software, Media library software (Plex, Kodi), etc.
You should configure these other programs to not scan the download directory until download is completed.

This doesn't feel like that. Only because it completes successfully when I post-process the failed download. One difference I see comparing the logs is that the finaldir is created the first time, but then skipped when it is processed the second time.

Yes, it does. Because of:

The bigger download is the higher the chances are that some other program starts scanning or indexing or a similar activity.

Use something like "process explorer" to find out processes accessing the directory (if you don't know what software that could be).

The final destination is on a NAS so process explorer will not help.

One test I can do is shutdown PLEX and try again.

Thank God for unlimited high speed internet. Downloading this 20 GB file for the 3rd time today

Why not? It will at least show process of this machine.

NAS complicates the things, sure. In addition to Windows there could be NAS processes blocking the file.

Plex is a good candidate, it's an often cause of such errors.

Interesting...
No error. I guess my gut feeling was just heart burn :)

It is still odd, being a convert from SABnabd, this condition never happened using SABnzbd.

A quick search turned up a plex notify PP script. I'll implement it and see if it gets around this issue.

Edit: Before I fart around with that script, I'll try the .plexignore trick:
*_unpack*

It's strange if it did work in SAB, were you using the same paths?

Same paths. Installed NZBGet on the same machine where SAB is/was installed.

Adding a .plexignore file with *_unpack* seems to have worked. Downloaded the file two more times and both times completed successfully.

Thanks for your help.

I really like NZBGet. It works much better than SAB (not putting SAB down). For example, I rate limit NZBGet to 20 MB/s and NZBGet will download steady at that rate. Whereas, SAB was never able to achieve constant rate like NZBGet.
