Post by dantheman61 » 19 Nov 2017, 19:40

I am new to nzbget when I am downloading or the download is unpacking plex server running on the same server cant play anything. I am think this is a disk io thing. Is there anything to lower download and unpacking io with nzbget?

Downloading and unpacking are two very different activities. Make more tests to determine which one causes issues with Plex.
What is your download speed in nzbget?

Server is at a datacenter. So 1gb download. Downloading and unpacking both causes Plex not to play. When download is done Plex works great.

Server specs i3- 2100 4gb ram 250GB HD Seagate Barracuda

First of all use performance monitor tools to control CPU and disk usage of nzbget and Plex. Then you can see what's going on.

Make sure option ArticleCache is active in nzbget, it reduces disk activity. If you use nzbget stable then try the latest testing, it should reduce CPU usage.

Try limiting download speed to test if there is any difference.

Generally nzbget doesn't put high load on a system during downloading although 25 MB/s can be problematic for a spinning drive if it has to serve other applications at the same time.

As for unpacking the process is either CPU bound (for passworded archives) or IO bound (for unencrypted archives). You can use option UnrarCmd to execute unrar with tuned priority.

I dont know how to control CPU and disk usage of nzbget and Plex with performance monitor tools in windows 10. I can see in task manager that the disk is at 99% when nzbget is downloading and unpacking.

ArticleCache is active in nzbget. i was on nzbget stable tried latest testing it dose the same thing.

limiting download helped when nzbget is downing but not unpacking.

how would i "use option UnrarCmd to execute unrar with tuned priority."

Check command line syntax of "unrar". It has parameters to set priority. I never used them myself and can't tell you exact syntax. Description of Option "UnrarCmd" has examples of passing additional parameters to unrar.
