So unpacking the file through winrar gui (drag from GUI into explorer window pointing at NAS mapped drive)

File unpacks perfectly, then that hang happens for about 60 seconds, then the file transfer starts and finishes no problem.

I removed the unpack portion of this equation.

Take two different 10GB files, drag and drop first one onto NAS, hangs for about 30-45 seconds then transfer starts.
Take second file and do the same, hang happens for about 60 seconds but windows doesn't abort the transfers.

Now I am extremely puzzled by what the hell is going on to cause this subsystem lockup. I don't have any issues accessing the internet, streaming, or even downloading that same exact 10GB file from the NAS to my computer.

Could it be the NAS taking its sweet time allocating space fore the incoming large file transfer, and windows locking up awaiting the response?

Why don't run nzbget directly on the NAS?

The NAS is a bit underpowered in my opinion. (Synology DS2413+) and I felt like it would be faster if I just downloaded and processed the files from my main computer.

Whats your opinion?

Worth noting I am running a few surveillance cameras and my DHCP server from that NAS as well.

2GHz, 2 cores is a lot of power, more than enough for nzbget, even 1Gpbs should be saturated. If you can attach an SSD for intermediate files it would run even smoother (but not necessary).

It'll take a little work, but I will try setting up NZBGet on the NAS.

Any tips I should consider when doing it?

I should be able to export the settings, import them on the NAS and just tweak the path section no?

Just finished installing it and migrating the settings over. I ended up doing a side by side manual migration of the settings because there are some that don't apply and some that referred to RAM which I wanted to stay low for the NAS.

Seems to be working beautifully so far. Time will tell when I really hammer it with 50+ 10GB+ downloads at once.

So far small test files have worked beautifully. I will leave it on sequential PP though since I don't think it would handle 3 or so unpacks at once.

Thanks again! hope this thread helps many many more.

P.S. I have a theory that this issue is caused because my RAID5 is a little low on memory, enough that it is not a space issue, but I think RAID5's get funny when they are 99% full.
