Hello sanderj,

I am indeed using DirectUnpack because the rpi isn't the fatests machine when unpacking bigger files (50GB+). In the partical case it was a 90GB download with rars splitted to 1000MB.

I am using dietpi as OS and by default swapping is disabled. So I enabled swapping to the hdd with a maximum size of 8GB and will give it a retry. Not sure what free -m shows with this particular download, but it looks fine when doing others downloads:

Code: Select all

total used free shared buff/cache available
Mem: 3877 318 1780 29 1779 3383
Swap: 8191 0 8191

a 90GB download on a Raspi4? I pity your Raspis' ARM processor ... ;)

OK, you now have swap on. Good. The free -m shows

Code: Select all

total used free shared buff/cache available
Mem: 3877 318 1780 29 1779 3383
Swap: 8191 0 8191
It shows:
You have (about) 4GB of RAM, of which 1.78 GB is free. Good
You have 8GB of swap (good), of which nothing is used at this moment.

While nzbget is running, now and then check output of "free -m". Bad signal: Mem -> free becomes 0. And/or swap -> free goes to 0

EDIT: swapping to a SD card is not great: swapping itself is slow, and in the long term not good for you SD card. But it does avoid a Out-of-Memory, so good as a test. Maybe read https://www.howtoforge.com/tutorial/linux-swappiness/ how to reduce swapping to your SD card.

I am swapping to an external 3.5 hard drive to reduce SD writing to a minimum.

The rpi4 handles even those huge downloads fairly well when direct unpack is possible, because my download speed is quite low.

Code: Select all

Statistics:
Downloaded size: 92.03 GB
Average download speed: 3.56 MB/s
Total time: 7:23:01
Download time: 7:21:39
Verification time: 0:00:00
Repair time: 0:00:00
Unpack time: 0:00:25
Not bad for this little machine. :)

How's your system load? what tweaks have you done?
Sorry, using an RPI4 4gb myself and struggling.

Hello rpi4usenetlad,

I am running dietpi, all userdata is on a external 3.5 drive. NZBGet can be installed using the dietpi-software manager with some tweaks for better performance on a rpi4. I just modified some of the settings, because 4GB of memory allow some further improvements. What are struggling with?
